As tablets go, the specs for the Flyer (I like this name better, so I’m sticking with it) are impressive but far from unique: a 7-inch, 1024-by-600 display; 1.5GHz Qualcomm Snapdragon processor; 1GB of RAM; 32GB of internal memory; a microSD card slot; and dual cameras (5-megapixel rear, 1.3-megapixel front).

Nice, yes, but not unique enough to win a specs battle against the iPad 2 and umpteen other Android tablets that will ship this year. What makes the Flyer unique is its pen-input feature. OK, I know what you’re saying. A stylus? Pen input? That’s so ten years ago. Didn’t Microsoft and others try and fail at pen-based tablets sometime last century?

In the consumer market, tablets never caught on until Apple iPad Tablet PC launched the iPad in 2010. And as we all know, the finger-friendly iPad most definitely does not require a stylus.

But despite the woeful history of pen-based tablets, HTC is giving it another go with the Flyer. There’s an important distinction between the Flyer and the failed tablets of yesteryear, however. As PCWorld’s Mark Sullivan made clear in February when he got a sneak peak at the Flyer at Mobile World Congress in Barcelona, the new HTC slate is really a touch tablet that does a few pen-based tricks:

“Don’t worry, you don’t need [a stylus] to operate the device. The pen is used mainly in the Notes app: you can draw out ideas whiteboard style-and talk while you’re doing it-and the app records everything that happens,” he wrote.

If one can trust HTC’s promo video, the Flyer’s pen implementation looks pretty slick.   The abilities to notate in ebooks, comment on documents and Web pages, and sign contracts with a stylus add a new layer of functionality to today’s Discount Tablet PC. A pen is also better for many drawing and photo-editing tasks, as the video carefully illustrates.

As much as I like the touch-based iPad–and to a lesser degree, the Samsung Galaxy Tab–I’ve felt that some tools would benefit from a more precise input device (e.g., a stylus). It’ll be interesting to see if HTC’s pen-input makes the Flyer a standout in an increasingly crowded Discount iPed Tablet PC market.

What is the best tablet to run the Android OS on? It seems that Apple may have been the first in the market, introducing the iPad. However, it looks like the real competition is just around the corner as every major mobile and computer manufacturer is talking about their own version of the tablet. Acer, Dell,HP,HTC and Lenovo are going to Release their Tablet with Android. The Android OS is the most exciting development in open operating systems for mobile devices. It is a great software environment, and deserves the very best hardware to run on. Which of these Android-capable tablets is the best for running the OS?

I like to use its ebook function(alot better than reading in my HTC), skype, msn, webmail, youtube and some little games, also i like the Antroid Market software that could download freeware onine and install easily. what I do like about it are several things: Light and portable; I can use as an Internet interface when out and about the house/yard; I can check my GMail without making a mad dash for my netbook or desktop; and finally, I think I can save “at least” 0 on an ebook reader of similar calibre AND have colour screen, and not that “e-paper” crud.
I will admit, though, that I am curious as to the “fit and finish” of the product. We’ll see, eh?

There are rumors about Google’s attempt to enter the tablet market with a device that it’s developing with major hardware manufacturers. Google has nothing to prove in the OS aspect of the tablet, as we have already witnessed Android capabilities on the Notion Ink Adam and on Nvidia’s Tegra tablet. Microsoft joined forces with HP in an attempt to dominate the tablet market, which ended up as a huge disappointment, as the 0 tablet is nothing more than a Windows 7 touchscreen PC. Nvidia recently introduced its new tablet that has 1 GB of RAM, 2 USB ports and a frontal camera (three things that the iPad does not have). Lets hope that Google will meet our expectations.

At the recent CCEF 2010 Shenzhen show in China, a company called eSalesChina released a new medium sized 7.0 inch touch screen android tablet pc called the E-7001 running on the Google Android 1.5 operating system.

The E-7001 is powered by the Android 1.5 operating system and runs on the Rockchip 2808 600Mhz processor. but offers some interesting specs such as an 800 x 480 resolution display, WCDMA/EVDO selectable 3G HSDPA, it has a WiFi b/g and LAN connectivity. Other features include a USB, 1.3MP front-facing camera, 720p HD capable playback, built-in MIC, headphone jack and stereo amplifier. It has SD card storage which accepts between 2GB to 32GB.

The tablet can run chat software such as Skype, MSN , etc and supports the usual type of Android application software.

These specs are not bad regarding the low price. The Rockchip RK2808 already showed that it’s possible to build a fast and cheap device with it and the option for 512MB RAM makes it even more attractive. The big amazing extra is the Android Market support, they where capable to add. I am not sure how they did it, but I doubt that Google releases an official Market license for a iPad clone like this.

On the weak side, I see the resistive touchscreen, the battery (I don’t believe its made for 5hrs) and the confusing distribution policy. Moonse does not have a single picture of it on their website and all these devices are sold on different wholesale websites, always with slightly other configurations, so you won’t always be sure which options you get. Maybe the company that produces it doesn’t want to get troubles with Apple, what in my eyes might happen pretty soon.

As a consequence of the different hardware options it is hard to judge speed and snappiness of this device. I could imagine that the 512MB RAM version will be a bit faster than the 128MB version, but RAM and processor aren’t the only factors for speed. It also depends on the Android customization and various other factors.

You see, the resistive touchscreen is not very responsive and overall speed of this device is not astonishing. I believe that the device in this video has 256MB RAM, as mpxmid.com sells 256MB versions. More impressive is the Android Market support, a key factor for Android tablets in my eyes. For a cheap device that’s a good start, but I doubt that the clone character helps to sell them widely. Maybe they would better pack this into an own design not referencing to Apples iPad.

The E-7001 is good for mobile web browsing, watching HD movies, sending and receiving mail, accessing files such as pictures or use for listening to music, the E-7001 is competent. The measures 9.33 x 4.92 x 0.56 inches and has a 2500mAh battery rated for 5 hours of run time per charge and only costs 950 Chinese yuan equivalent to about 0 usd.
