Comparing Android Tablets With The iPad

Article by Peter Nisbet
Which are best: iPad or Android tablets? What’s the difference between them, and which should you choose? We shall first discuss the Android and Apple software platforms in general, and then discuss them in terms of tablet computers, specifically the iPad 2 and the Android Honeycomb operating system used in the Motorola Xoom tablet.
The fundamental difference between the Apple and Android operating systems for tablet computers is that the Apple system is a closed system, specific only to apple devices, while Android is open source. What this means is that developers can use Android free of charge, boih to deign apps and to create hardware to use with the OS.
Android now belongs to Google, who purchased it form the developers Android Inc. in 2005. Google offered it free to the market as open source software under the OHA (open Source Alliance) – although Google is currently taking action against at least one Asian firm for the way they are using it. It can be used under the Apache free software license.. Canalys listed Android as the worldwide best-selling software in 2010 for smartphones.
A Common Platform
That’s the background for Android, which is now being used in tablets in competition to Apple’s iPad. Because the iPad uses a proprietary software platform, it is by nature more restrictive than Android devices, and therefore does not have the same breadth of communication between devices as Android tablets would theoretically have. However, because Android tablets are in their infancy, this degree of platform commonality has yet to be used to any advantage.
In fact, it is highly likely that individual Android users will be protective of their own devices, and that the full benefits of a common platform are unlikely to be developed. Nevertheless, because of this common platform, it is highly likely in the future that apps and other forms of software will tend to focus on Android rather than Apple. For now, however, there is still a larger choice of apps available for Apple devices than for Android tablets – but this is expected to be only a temporary situation because development of Android apps is now continuous.
iPad 2 Vs Android Tablets
So how does all this translate into the hardware using each of the two operating systems? It is fundamentally now a comparison of the iPad 2 with the top Android tablets. There are several tablets that fail to match iPad let alone iPad 2, but there have been several good tablets developed using Android by top firms such as Acer, Samsung and Motorola, and is the latter that we shall consider here.
The Motorola Zoom Tablet uses the Android Honeycomb OS, and is thicker and heavier than the iPad 2 (0.34 v 0.5 inches). Each has dual-core 1GHz processors, although while the iPad2 is believed to have only 512MN RAM, the Xoom has 1GB.
One excellent feature of the Xoom is that you can plug it into your PC and access your files. You can download from one device to the other or transfer files between them. With the iPad 2 this is a ponderous process that has to be done through iTunes. No need you use iTunes to download music: rather than using the clunky iTunes with all the memory it takes up to download your music, you can do so by dragging and dropping to the Xoom tablet.
Multitasking Comparison
Another advantage of the Android tablet is that it is true multitasking which the iPad is not. The iPad is more a matter of changing between tasks, with a small amount of processing in the background, but not true multitasking. There are many other benefits that the Android tablets can offer over the iPad 2, including more flexibility in file handling, and icon presentation. Because the operating system is open source, you can communicate with any device using it, and are not restricted to Apple’s own software format.
However, the iPad does have some advantages in addition to being thinner and lighter, and one of these is the number of available apps as suggested earlier. This is likely because most tablet apps are based on the iPad, and are generally developments of the apps developed for the iPhone. Because there are now more apps being developed for Android because it is being used by multiple manufacturers, rather than just the one of iPad, there will shortly be more Android apps available on the market than those for iPad in any of its versions.
Apple Fan or Android Fan
Ultimately, the choice between the iPad and an Android tablet, exemplified here by the Motorola Xoom, will possibly come down to whether or not you are an Apple fan. Apple fans will likely stick to the Apple product, while there currently appears to be no compelling reason why PC fans should go with the iPad rather than the Xoom – though there are more excellent Android tablets on the market.
Android devices have been steadily coming onto the market, and taking an increasingly larger bite of Apple – this will increase as more firms appreciate the advantages of using shared Open Source software. Before long, the tablet market will be very similar to the current situation in the laptop market where we have those that go with the Apple way of doing things and those that prefer Windows. Only, it is now Apple versus Android. Who will win – you will decide that.

What Is The Best iPad Replica?

I often get correspondence from people asking me to help them to determine what might be the best iPad replica for them that they would be the most happy with. And, I often feel like what they are really asking is not for the best iPad replica, it’s actually what is the best tablet replica for them.
Everyone’s needs are going to be different. For some, price is going to be their biggest concern. They are just looking for a sleek, light, and small tablet in which to put in their back pack, purse, or briefcase so that they have the ability to check email, carry out word processing, listen to music, read ebooks, and get on social networking sites when they have a few minutes of down time.
Some people don’t care about the latest android operating system, the processor underneath the hood, or having an excess or expandable amount of memory. They just want the basic features for as cheaply as possible. For them, the more expensive but better quality clones might not be their first choice and might be overkill. There are plenty of these replica tablets that run in the and up range that would fit that bill.
]]>
But, some consumers want a higher quality replica that looks and functions as close to the original as possible. And some appreciate a few extras like expandable memory, USB slot, and camera / web cam. The real differences in the pricing and performance in these replicas often comes down to the operating system (cheaper models have older ones,) the memory, (rather it’s expandable or not,) and the processor. These things are going to affect the speed and the user experience.
For example, with some of the cheaper and older models, YouTube is a little slow. I’ve even seen the sound lag behind the picture. And web browsing on these cheaper models is a little more slow. If you’re a casual user, this might not make a difference to you. But, if you are going to be a heavy user and want the best model available now, it’s my opinion that this is the iPed with the rock chip processor.
This model has the fastest chip, none of the lag time, and expandable memory so that there’s plenty of room to grow. Yes, it costs a little more averaging at around 0, but many find it to be worth it when its’ features are so close to the original and include a few bonuses too.
If you want to see how good the iPed really is, you can read a review, and see video, close up photos, full specifications, and real time pricing at the iPed Review Website located at http://tabletclonereview.com/
The Galaxy eReader tablet PC. Better than a ipad and kindle?

I have been reading reviews for several days and can’t find usable information. Regardless of what tablet I look at, there are so many reviews that contradict each other. One person says the device is junk and the next one says it is the best available. I have been looking at mostly low end tablets under 0.
My primary need is for a top notch color Ereader that I can also use for internet surfing, email and a notepad hopefully with a spell checker. I want a tablet on which I can install both Amazon Kindle and Barnes and Noble Nook apps. I started out thinking the Velocity Micro Cruz T301 would serve my needs, but there are so many contradicting reviews. I have looked at the IRobot Apad and likewise found nothing but contradictory reviews. And both seem to be locked into an out of date version of Android. I have also looked at a few others in the same price range. I think the 4×3 screen format will be better for use as an ereader, but the only thing I have to compare to is my Droid R2D2 phone with ridiculous tiny print. I have no need for using the tablet to watch video or listen to music or play new games.
I’ve yet to see a bad review on this thing. Everything I’ve read has been nothing but praise as the best smartphone period. And most importantly for me the phone is great at making calls with great call quality (incoming and outgoing). After all, it’s a phone. I’ve already decided to get one as soon as it hits US shores. I’ve never been so excited about getting a gadget since I first got my iPhone. This thing just does everything right, and I just can’t get over how beautiful that display is. I think Apple is making a big mistake for delaying the iPhone 5 and also sticking with LCD. OLED is the future and Samsung has a massive head start now. This thing about seamless operation of iOS over Android is way over exaggerated. Not to mention the old argument of specs don’t mean anything. Everything is a spec these days.
The $150 iPad Clones: What Do You Get For Your Money?
People often contact me when they notice that you can get an iPad clone from anywhere to to around 0. They often want to know what is the difference between the clone and the 0 clone. (I’ll discuss this more below.) I find that most people settle on between 0 – 0 as the price range where they want to be. And most intuitively know that, most of the time, there’s a reason that the 0 model costs a little more. This article will look at a few popular models in the 0 – 0 range and will tell you why I think you actually get quite a lot for your money.
First of all, the difference between the iPad clones and those that cost a little more are usually the materials used, the tablet’s capabilties, the operating system, and the chip. The cheaper models aren’t are not as responsive, don’t support flash, use old operating systems, and don’t support very much memory, which really slows them down. Now, that’s not to say that these cheap clones won’t work for very basic users or kids. There is definitely a niche for these cheaper clones. But, there are limited in some ways. The good news is there are many models that aren’t.
Many people who are interested in a tablet want to be able to do most of what they could do with a notebook computer on it. And for these consumers, there are a couple of very nice models in the 0 -0 range. There are a few iPeds which have rock chip processors and late versions of Android that are quite fast, solid and responsive. Many run flash and play YouTube and video quite well. In short, most of what you could do on a lap top, you could do on these knock off tablets, although some prefer to hook up a keyboard if they are going to do extensive word processing. These tablets also have cameras and allow for e reading like the kindle or the nook.
]]>
For the most part, the iPeds are 7 inches. For people are want this type of performance in a larger model, there’s a larger option. There is a 10.2 inch aPad, which is quite similar and in the same price range. The performance is also very similar. Additionally, many of these aPads allows you the option of using windows also. This is a nice alternative to HP’s new windows based tablet which is coming out at around 0 rather than the 0 – 0 price range of the clone. Of course, the clones are knock offs and they aren’t exactly the same as the iPad or the HP model, but they do offer many of the same features for less.
If you want to see how good the iPed really is, you can read a review, and see video, close up photos, full specifications, and real time pricing at the iPed Review Website located at http://tabletclonereview.com/

Apple Ipad Or The Chinese Apad ? Take Your Pick
The iPed or Apad as it is popularly known is the Chinese clone of the Apple iPad. Before you dismiss it scornfully please note that the Apad does not run on some absurd piece of software, normally associated with Chinese electronics products. The name Apad comes from the fact that it runs on Android Operating System.
The astounding success of Apple iPad has lead to the creation of many similar look alike but the Apad is on a different plane altogether. It is available to buy right now in Shenzan, China and also on a few Chinese trading websites. The fact that it costs less than the Apple iPad can make a huge difference to its sales potential. The specs are somewhat different from those available in the iPad but the design and the style is exactly the same.
Apad looks to take advantage of the few flaws seen with the iPad specs and design. It definitely scores over iPad as it comes with a webcam, USB Port, memory card slot and other features. The biggest difference of course is in the Operating Systems. While Apple iPad runs on iPhone OS, the Android cannot be considered inferior by any stretch of imagination. The iPed or Apad has some attractive features that can definitely appeal to today’s generation. It features a 7″ touchscreen display as compared to the 9.7″ screen of the iPad and comes with 800X430 resolution. It has a built-in gmail email support and weighs half of that of other PC tablets at 399gms. (iPod weighs 700g). The 1GB memory is supported by a 600 MHz RockChip 2808A processor. Other important features are MicroSD support, 802.11b/g WiFi and High Definition Video playback. It also has a 3.5mm jack. You can reach YouTube with a one-click access.
The fact that the Apad runs on Android also gives you access to Google apps such as Chrome Browser, Google Maps and Google Talk. The price is the most stunning part of this amazing device. While an Apple iPad can cost you $ 499 for 16 GB WiFi, the iPed is available to buy online for just $ 149 USD. Now you know why the Apad or the iPed is making such huge waves in China.
While there is no doubt that the iPad is the real thing and whatever the Chinese clone Apad does, it will still draw comparisons to performance and longevity. But the abysmally low price at which they are providing all those stunning features is what is making everyone sit up and take notice of the product.
While the price and the features available in the Apad are definitely good news, there are some major drawbacks too when compared to the iPad. One of the areas of concern is the speed. The video replay is reported as mediocre. The 126MB RAM is too low and you cannot run too many applications simultaneously. If you try hard enough the applications are forced to close down on their own. That definitely is a major hitch. There is some problem with the quality of the case and the frame. The AC adapter is of poor quality. Many times you are forced to leave the tablet in idle condition while it gets charged.
The Apad gets heated very fast as compared to the iPad and the battery does not last too long. At the most you can use it for two hours at a stretch. Pictures in the video replay get cropped and enlarging it affects the quality of the video in a major way. Apad does not support Flash.
Which bring us back to the original one, the Apple iPad. Undoubtedly the real thing is a great performer and is still preferred by those who don’t mind paying any price for a genuine, deeply researched invention like the iPad. Yet, getting a full-featured, expandable, WiFi enabled tablet for just around $ 150 is not half as bad.
What Is The Cheapest iPad Clone? Should Price Be The Deciding Factor?

I recently had someone ask me what was the cheapest iPad clone and where they could find or buy it. I’ve heard of clone tablets selling as low as , but these are incredibly hard to find and, even if you could find them, I would wonder about their quality.
There are more readily available clones that sell for around that are very similar to the iPad. Mostly, these models are sold under the name aPad and feature white housing with a red navigation button. And, these dirt cheap clones do have many of the features of the original. They do get the job done. But, there’s some differences between the cheapest clones and the clones for which you will pay a little more.
The cheapest clones generally are a bit more bulky, have an older operating system and a more outdated version of android, as well as a slower chip. This creates a bit of a lag time and sometimes you’ll see this in the video quality or when you’re trying to open up a lot of applications or web pages. Also, these cheaper clones will typically not accommodate as much memory so you’re not really able to increase your speed and you’re limited to how much you can store on it.
]]>
If price is your main consideration when buying an iPad clone, at least check out the feedback of the seller to make sure that folks who have brought the model that you are interested in were happy with it. There are many different versions, prices, and quality levels with these iPad clones. It’s probably not always accurate to say that you get what you pay for, but generally speaking, the clones that are closer in features and quality the real iPad are those with the rock chip processors with the most memory. And these are generally around 0 rather than .
However, that’s not to say that if you just want similar features and similar housing that the cheapest aPad clone won’t get the job done. It will. It just won’t always be as fast when it accomplishes this and there’s not nearly as much room to grow.
You can see reviews and pricing for a wide range of iPad clones (even the cheap ones) at iPed Review Website located at http://tabletclonereview.com
Cheap Chinese iPad Clones: A Look At These Inexpensive Tablets

I’ve been getting a lot of correspondence asking for information about the cheap Chinese iPad clones, knock offs, imitations, or replicas, etc. I often have to ask a few additional questions to figure out what the person means. Because the word “cheap” can have a lot of connotations.
You can say cheap and also mean inexpensive. You’re implying that you don’t want to pay full price for the clone (or as much as the original) but want to enjoy many of the same features for less money. Or, you can mean cheap as low quality, low performance, or something that uses inferior or throw away parts.
Some people think of the iPad clones in this way. They wonder how anything that cost so little could begin to perform or function like the much more expensive iPad. The thing is, there’s many different models of this Chinese iPad clones available in all different price levels. Many of them do have similar features. Many of them look and function in the same way. But the quality level is different among them.
For example, the cheaper models (and there are some that go for less than . I’ve seen some for as low as ) are going to be more bulky and heavy. They’re not going to be as responsive or fast. They won’t hold as much memory and they may use an unknown or older operating system that isn’t expandable or open source.
Moving along, they are also iPad clones that run in the – 0 range. These are of better quality and not as “cheap” if you’re using that term to infer quality and performance. Most of the models in this range function fine, but they may have a little bit of a lag and have less memory capabilities. Still, many light users are thrilled with these. Because they weigh next to nothing, fit in a backpack, briefcase or purse, and are much more accessible than a larger laptop.
Finally, the iPad clones which I would not call “cheap” in terms of quality but which are inexpensive in price are the clones (usually referred to as an iPed or aPad) that have a fast and current processor and can accommodate a lot of expandable memory. These are often referred to ask the “rock chip” models because this is the processor that they use and this is partly responsible for their high performance. And it is the reason that many consider them to be one of the best of the inexpensive Chinese iPad clones.
They use the open source android operating system which has tons of apps and that number is growing every day. And, they have all of the features of the original like web browsing, email checking, texting, talking, reading ebooks, listening to music, watching video, and taking photos and video. All of these functions are fast with no lag or wait.
Yes, these rock chip models are less “cheap” in a few ways. The quality of them is higher but they cost a bit more. They’ve average out at around 0 which still makes them much less expensive than the original. They also have a decent amount of support and accessories available with them as they are becoming more and more mainstream.

We all want an iPad but

The iRobot aPad is not an alternative for the iPad, but it is however something you should consider if you want a touch screen tablet pc with looks good, is very functional and also easily connectible to your pc or laptop, and best of all it won’t cost you much at all.
Over the years laptops have become very popular as the costs have come down, but also technology has developed allowing us to use them to their full potential, for example carrying the laptop into your garden whilst watching videos on youtube, not a common site 10 years ago, but it is today.
]]>
In the same way touch screen pc tablets are setting a new trend, if all you want to do is browse the web, watch movies, play games or view the odd office document just so it seems like you’re actually working.
They don’t offer great performance, but in terms of portability they just cant be beaten. Laptops and netbooks have to be either rested on a table or on your lap, which isn’t how most people like to relax, touch screen tablets however can be held in one hand whilst you touch away with the other.
But with touch tablet do I need?
Well that depends on what you’re going to use it for:
If you only to browse the web, then any entry model will do the trick, if however you want to watch flash videos online, play movies of the HDD, play games or use some cool apps then you have to make sure your touch tablet contains the latest Dual Core Rockchip processor to ensure smooth usage.
There are also 10″ touch tablets available but the price compared to the 7″ models might put you off.
What Is The Best Imitation iPad?

There’s no question that there’s a slew of imitation iPad clones to chose from today. Some people might chose to call them “fake” and that’s OK. But I believe imitation is the better term because there’s nothing fake about the features or performance of many of these higher end imitators.
Granted, there’s a wide range in the quality of these models. There’s also a wide range of prices. You can get a basic imitation tablet that cost or even less but which is also somewhat bulky and heavy and has a slow processor, limited memory, and an old or unheard of operating system. That’s not to say there’s not a market for these cheaper models. There most definitely is. Students, younger folks, or people who are only going to be light users are often quite thrilled with even the bare bones, no frills models.
But, many of the people who write to me really want the closest iPad imitation on the market. They want the model that runs and is modeled most closely to the original and they’re willing to pay a little more for it. In my opinion, the model that fits this bill is the iPed with the rockchip processor.
]]>
I like this model because it looks very close to the original. It is thin, sleek, and responsive. It is extremely fast because of it’s rock chip processor and it has none of the lag of the models with less memory or a slower chip. You can do all of the sought after functions on it like watching YouTube, playing music and movies, word processing, surfing the web, reading ebooks, updating Facebook, checking email, making calls and texting, and the like.
Plus, it has a camera and web cam, a USB port to hook up a portable keyboard or 3G dongle if you want one and expandable memory via SD card. This iPed runs on the android operating system so it’s an extensive open source that offers endless apps and is growing. To me, it offers the best of both worlds. It usually costs around 0, but this price may go down as time goes on. Also, there are already plentiful accessories and support available for this model as it’s become quite popular.
To read a review (and see video, specs, and photos) of the iPed with the rockchip processor discussed in this article, please see http://tabletclonereview.com/

What Is The Best iPad Clone?

There’s no question that there’s been a huge interest in the iPad clones. But, there’s also no question that there’s many models to chose from and not all of them are as good as some of the others. With names like iPed, aPad, and ePad. It’s hard to tell how one model differs from another.
The difference often comes down to the chip, the firmware, the operating system, and the memory. You can get an iPad clone for as cheap as under and for as expensive as around 0, but the quality between the two may well vary a great deal.
And, the question often isn’t “what is the best iPad clone?” It’s really “what is the best iPad clone for me” because each person is going to use the tablet differently and different features are going to matter differently to each person. Some people are more concerned about the cost. Some people are more concerned about features and performance. And some want a combination of both.
]]>
But, I find that most people are looking for a sleek, fast, responsive, and dependable tablet on which to browse the web, watch video, listen to music, check emails, text, record video, take pictures, and read ebooks. Some of the iPed clones accomplish this better than others, especially when it comes to video quality.
That’s why in my view, I really see the iPeds with the rock chip processors as the best iPad clones. They have later operating systems (the open source android,) a faster chip, higher screen definition and responsiveness, expandable memory, USB ports, and no lag with the video.
Additionally, they have several things that the original doesn’t including the previously mentioned USB port, a removable battery, an SD slot, and digital camera and webcam. This better performing iPed cost a bit more than some of the cheaper, slower and less responsive models. But, it’s still only around 0, at least right now. This is significantly less than the original model to which it looks and functions very similarly.
If you want to see how good the iPed really is, you can read a review, and see video, close up photos, full specifications, and real time pricing at the iPed Review Website located at http://tabletclonereview.com/
